Weather: LPA nears Bohol, PAGASA says

After passing through parts of Mindanao, a potential cyclone — a low-pressure area — moved closer to Central Visayas Sunday afternoon, state weather forecasters said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was estimated at 70 km east of Tagbilaran City in Bohol as of 2 p.m.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides on parts of Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours.

"Luzon, Visayas and the northern section of Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rain over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Eastern and Central Visayas, which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

The rest of Mindanao will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, PAGASA added.

Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA is likely to move west, towards the Western Philippine Sea.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to northeast over Luzon and western Visayas, and coming from the southeast to northeast over Mindanao and the rest of Visayas.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough, PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas.

"Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. – KBK, GMA News
