CHRIST THE REDEEMER: AMBASSADOR FOR WYD RIO2013

Christ the Redeemer will be an ambassador for World Youth Day (WYD) Rio2013, which will be held July 23rd – 28th.
A replica of Rio de Janeiro’s famed monument will be sent out as the ‘largest postcard from Brazil,’ bearing the name of the city to the four corners of the world in an exhibition, “Christ the Redeemer for All,” which will be officially launched on December 21st, 2012 at the Palace Laranjeiras.
The idea, born with the commemoration of the 80th inauguration anniversary of the monument Christ the Redeemer [...] will promote World Youth Day 2013, as well as the host city itself, which in addition to its natural beauty has been preparing the necessary infrastructure to host and to secure the event.
The news was announced by the vicar for the Media, Fr. Marcos William, during a visit this morning to the PoloRio of Cine &Video in Barra da Tijuca to see a prototype of the replica that will be seen all over the world. Rresent were Rio Archbishop, Dom Orani João Tempesta,  members of the WYD Rio 2013 Committee, representatives of the Rio Government, and the staff of LPG, the company responsible for the project.
According to the rector of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Christ the Redeemer Corcovado, Father Omar Raposo, “Christ is the greatest symbol of Rio de Janeiro and, thus, it is not only a receiver of all the tourists and pilgrims, but with its open arms, meets the other cultures and countries, showing that Rio is a city open and welcoming.”
The exhibition schedule has not yet been released. According to the general manager of the project “80 years of Christ the Redeemer,” Eduardo Marucho, the show will present the history of the monument, and current information about its home, Rio de Janeiro.
As “Christ the Redeemer for All” tours across Brazil and at least six other countries, young people will be chosen to perform for Pope Benedict XVI during the World Youth Day celebrations. From each country that receives the replica,  a young singer will be selected to join the ‘Christ 80 Year Choir’ of 800 voices.
Young people from countries visited by the replica are invited to attend the events, and to leave messages for World Youth Day Rio2013.
“We want to find Christ, the Lord and Saviour of the world, in World Youth Day, which is symbolized and represented by this monument”, said Archbishop Orani.
For Fr. Mark, the exhibition will prove to be a religious experience encountered by many people, with the Archbishop of Rio and local bishops serving as catechists in a new wave of evangelization.
