The Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals trounced the guest squad Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates 1-0, to gain a piece of the lead, along with defending men’s champion San Beda College Red Lions, in the 87th NCAA football tournament at the Philsports track and football field in Pasig City.
Rodante Larios Jr. scored the game’s lone goal in the 65th minute to increase the Generals’ points total to 12 on a 4-1-0 win-loss-draw record.
The result was good enough to join the Red Lions (4-0-0) in the lead.
In the juniors division, defending champion College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills Greenies tied the Arellano High Scool Braves in the second spot, behind the pace-setting San Beda Rizal Red Cubs, as they humbled the Letran High School Squires, 18-0.
With the win, the Greenies now have 15 points and a 5-1-0 record, the same slate as the Baby Chiefs. Both squads are three points behind the Red Cubs, who possess an immaculate 6-0-0 win-loss-draw card.
Antonio Luis Celdran led La Salle Greenhills’ scoring spree with six goals.
In the other juniors match, the EAC-ICA Brigadiers also beat their Lyceum counterparts, the Junior Pirates, 4-0.
The Brigadiers now have a total of 6 points on a 2-4-0 record for the solo fourth spot, while the Junior Pirates remained winless after seven games. - AMD, GMA News
